erika j asked:

I’m in my 38th week of pregnancy and I’m huge and can barely move.
The doctor won’t do a cesarean because she sees no medical reason for it. The baby is developed and I’m passed ready to deliver, can anyone give suggestions on home remedies for inducing labor naturally?

Walk! Slowly. But walking helps I heard.

  2. BeautyBlitz Says:

Sometimes having sex can bring on labour.

I’ve also heard of nipple stimulation

Walking can help to get things moving along if you are already experiencing contractions. The motion of walking makes your hips sway from side to side, which will help to bring the baby into the proper position to be born. In addition, by standing up you help to put gravity on your side, lowering the baby in your pelvis.

You should really talk to a midwife or your doctor before taking any “home” remedies. They can be dangerous if you take to much or if you have some underlying conditions. It’s not worth hurting yourself or your baby just so that you will go into labour a week early.
    Here are some ideas.
    Walking
    Sex
    Evening Primrose Oil
    Get Started homeopathic preparation.
    Nipple simulation (lots of it)
    Red raspberry leaf tea

When I was pregnant 2 decades ago, they said having an orgasm helps bring on labor, and that a HHH enema helps. (high, hot, and a helluvalot) But at that stage of pregnancy, who feels like having an orgasm? And if you give yourself an enema, and it works to bring on labor, won’t you be still having the effects of the enema while you’re pushing to birth the child?
I opted to just let it happen when it happened.
    Good luck!!

OMGosh i read about nipple stimulation in my book, what to expect when you’re expecting. You have to literally do it for HOURS. who really wants to do that? LOL

sex, just make sure YOU climax cause that’s what helps getting things in gear…

walking is great, even during labor, if you can tolerate it.

I’ve heard of other things too but never tried them cause they seemed kinda loopy to me…

    good luck!!

I have been in your situation before, and even though I tried close to everything, I was still induced.
Here are some things that you could do and maybe it will work for you…every person’s body is different so you just might get a jump start into labor!
~Walking…but you need to walk a lot in order for this to really help: gravity help bring pressure on the cervix
~Spicy foods: stimulates the intestines which can cause contractions
~Nipple stimulation: It releases Oxytocin which bring on contractions, but you need to be careful due to the fact that it can bring contractions on hard and fast….usually you need to already have contractions for this to work.
~Membrane Sweep: Your OB will clear the membrane from cervix, in my opinion, this felt like a regular exam..not painful but uncomfortable. This caused my to loose my mucous plug and dilating.
~Accupressure: It is said that if you have pressure to certain areas of your body, such as feet, that it can aid in contractions.
Also, relaxation is key!! Take a bath, read a book, meditate…whatever will get you calm and relaxed.
    Hope this helps!

BTW: All research shows that spicy food during pregnancy is FINE..the only thing to be concerned of is heartburn. -
Also, babies do NOT have a bowel movement (meconium) in utero unless baby is in distress, known as meconium aspiration syndrome. This is NOT caused by spicy food otherwise there would be thousands of pregnant women, especially in cultures that live off of spicy foods: Indian, Latin, some Asian cultures etc, that would have this issue and there would be MAJOR concern if this happened.
A baby might have a BM in utero when delivering and pressure is on the head or cord causing relaxation to anal sphincter; therefore causing BM….and that is a sign to a doctor that the baby is in distress.
Spicy Food is FINE in moderation…as long as it does’t bother you with heartburn…and if you decide to breast feed you can even enjoy spicy foods then as well…in moderation.

→Visualizations, Meditations, and Affirmations to Initiate Labor
Eliminate stress by relaxing with meditation, warm baths, aromatherapy, soothing music, etc., may help initiate labor. Stress inhibits labor.
Visualize opening of the cervix and contracting of the uterus. Visualize a flower opening.
From a positive, hopeful viewpoint (rather than as a problem), imagine that labor will begin soon. Look forward to it with enthusiasm.
Speak or otherwise communicate with the baby. Welcome and encourage the baby. Labor is initiated with a hormonal communication between the mother and baby’s body.
Belly Massage, Nipple Stimulation, and Orgasm for Inducing Labor
Rubbing the belly gently and persistently may stimulate contractions of the uterus.
Sucking or working the nipples between two fingers triggers the release of oxytocin which stimulates uterine contractions. (Oxytocin is a natural hormone produced by the woman’s body. Pitocin is the synthetic form of oxytocin used by medical staff to induce labor.)
If membranes are intact (water has not broken), sexual intercourse may help initiate labor. Female orgasm stimulates uterine contractions and prostaglandins in semen help ripen the cervix. (Prostoglandins are a hormone-like substance produced by a man’s body.)

For those who answered to use hot spicy foods they are dead wrong. What you eat the fetus eats and hot spicy foods could bring on a bout of diarrhea for the fetus (yes the fetus shits in the womb) and it Minconim can leak into the womb. This product is “normally” expelled after the birth of a baby but if the mother uses laxatives or spicy foods that CAN cause diarrhea the fetus can expel Minconin inutero thus causing Minconim Aspiration (it goes into their lungs) Frankly the best way is to let Nature take it’s course, just because YOU are ready for it to be over doesn’t mean your fetus is, The doctor is correct for not doing a C-Section because if it is no medically necessary your insurance will not pay for it and C-Sections cost considerably more than vaginal birth. Go for more walks, and relax. the term for a “normal” pregnancy is 32 to 40 weeks…you still have two more to go.

When I was pregnant with my son I tried acupressure and nipple stimulation. My contractions were coming and going at random times for weeks but I remember nipple stimulation made them stronger. The day I went to the hospital my contractions started but the were fading away again. I started nipple stimulation and it kind of made them more steady. I ended up having a C-section due to baby being breech and that’s why my contractions were not going anywhere. A midwife at the hospital also suggested acupressure. Nipple stimulation can make the contractions more painful and has to be done with care.
